Winter weddings are back - host your off season wedding in London

Winter weddings are making a comeback, and it’s long overdue.

Before the pandemic, the London wedding industry’s diaries were busy year round. The idea that London had a “wedding season” was unheard of. Sure, out in the countryside or by the beach clients would gamble on the summer months, hoping for a peachy 25 degree day with nothing more than a light breeze. But back in the capital, wedding clients always seemed a little more resilient to the weather. And now, after a couple of quiet post-covid years, winter weddings are back and we couldn’t be happier.

Why choose a winter wedding?

As strange as it sounds, one of the main reasons for choosing a winter wedding is the weather. (Yes, you read that right). So many of London’s coolest wedding venues just don’t have outside space. Real estate in the capital is expensive, so finding a venue with a garden in lively Shoreditch or a spot with a veranda in Soho is nest to impossible. And when central(ish) London venues do have outside areas, we are so often restricted by what we can do there as we inevitably hemmed in by neighbours. So, if your wedding celebrtation is taking place indoors - in one of our gorgeous London venues - why worry about what the weather is going to do? We’ve seen many, many more couples disappointed by an unexpectedly miserable day in the summer then we have winter clients because it’s par for the course. Winter weddings are a fabulous opportunity to don that luxurious ‘big coat’ and brave the cold for a few moments as you arrive, but once inside your venue, it’s cosy time.

Style your winter wedding

What a great opportunity a winter wedding is for styling! Twinkling fairylights, the dark greens of winter foliage (cheaper than summer flowers too), dried fruits and floral arrangements, rich colour schemes on your tables. Think oppulent winter parties and you can’t possibly go wrong.

Hosting a wedding over Christmas

Could the Christmas holiday be the perfect time to celebrate your wedding? Lots of companies close for business over the Christmas period (betwixtmas anyone?) meaning a good number of your guests will be off work. Once the thrill of Christmas Day is over and the Boxing Day fog has lifted, many people are, to be honest, a bit bored as they wait for the new year. Could this week prove your perfect slot for a romantic, seasonal wedding?

New Year’s weddings

Lots of couples land on the idea that New Year’s Eve would make the perfect wedding date. For lots of people, NYE is a bit of a damp squib - they’re more likely to doze off in front of Jools Holland than ‘go big’. So why not solve the big NYE question by hosting your wedding on the big night? Do expect an increase in costs for new year though. Many venues will increase their hire fee and we’d expect to be paying staff, security, drivers etc a higher rate than usual.

Save money with a winter wedding

If you’re happy to consider a wedding in November, January or February, you are likely to be offered ‘off season’ hire rates from your venue and other suppliers too. Photographers, bands, DJs and videographers are often happy to negotiate a lower fee for these quiet months. At The Wedding Arrangers we are always keen to find the best deals for your celebration - something that is a lot easier in these winter months.
